Trenton Deis was the cold-hearted assassin hired by Castomira Brangwin to kill both Lucaine Pyramides and Catarin deSangre around the Wars of Succession. Lucaine and Trenton first met face to face at the Battle of Beggar's Arch. Lucaine defeated him in single combat and, seeing Deis unfit for a warrior's death, denied him his blade and instead condemned him to a death upon the gallows the following dawn. Deis escaped his jailers, and his contract upon the young Kasharian swordsman became a personal vendetta.

Deis later encountered Lucaine, unarmed, as the mercenary was writing the last of his love poems to Catarin. He first broke Pyramides' sword, then blinded him, and finally called upon his underlings hiding in the surrounding area to pierce Lucaine with spears. Whether he burned Pyramides alive or Pyramides himself summoned arcane flames is unknown, but what is known is that by the end of the affair, he was dead by Trenton's hands.

Sartan, the Malevolent is the divine embodiment of Evil, the fusion of the Elder God Shaitan and the God Apollyon.

While Shaitan was created early in the history of Creation by Ayar, Apollyon was born—along with Aurora—from a celestial event involving the Morning Star. Shaitan attacked and absorbed the Divine essence of Apollyon almost at once, declaring Himself born anew as Sartan, God of Evil.

As Sartan, the merciless Overlord founded His Seven Truths of Evil, with which He commands His faithful from the mountain city-fortress of Mhaldor.

History

Circa 326 AF, Sartan kidnapped the child-God Pandemonium, son of Eris, Goddess of Chaos, and Aegis, God of War. Sartan then bound Him in the fissure beneath Mhaldor, an act that catalyzed the War of the Divine Child.

Decades later, in Scarlatan of 396 AF, with the assistance of Keresis, Goddess of Vengeance, Sartan split His essence back into those of the original two Gods, Shaitan and Apollyon, to better oversee the spread of Evil.

Following the apparent death of Apollyon at the hands of Pentharian in 611, Shaitan reabsorbed His brother's essence to become reborn as Sartan, the Malevolent once more.

The Sartai

The Black Hand, also known as the Sartai, rally to the dread banner of the Evil One. He commands His chosen from the fortress of Mhaldor, quenching His bloodlust with all who dare stand between Him and the inevitable dominion of Evil over all.

Proficy Ikari was first adventurer to be raised as an Avatar of Malevolence.

Tabethys Aristata was the first adventurer elevated to the status of Sartan's Order Champion, bearing the mantle of Tyndran.

Divine Symbols

Sartan's presence is personified most strongly in His crimson fog, although His main symbol is a black hand.

Sartan wields the mighty Sword of Damocles and the Blade of Perdition.
