Ulangi is an island off the southeastern coast of the main continent of Sapience.

History

Ulangi was found by Oswald in the year 264AF. The Sentinel was flying in Tasur'ke, above Caspian's Tower, when a strong wind came and took him. He was blown all about in this massive storm, before being roughly dropped somewhere he had never been before.

He could not track back, or use his grove return. Upon surveying the area, he found himself to be on an island called Ulangi, which we now know is an island off the Southeast side of Sapience. He wandered the island, fearing for his safety. He came across a Sentinel whom he had never heard of, and spoke with him awhile of rituals and quests.

Lucky for Oswald, there is a newsroom on the island, so he was able to safely compose posts to the whole of Achaea, making valuable contact with the world across the seas. In his public news posts, Oswald speaks of two villages, one of Grooks, devout magic users, and a hive of Horkvali, the shock-troops of Aegis during the wars of mythology.

The Sentinels and Lord Caspian arranged a rescue of the marooned Oswald and all was right with the world.

Geography

The isle of Ulangi lies to the southeast of the continent. From the fishing village of Shastaan, a short, reasonably priced ferry ride manned by Gareth, will get you there. Though some clever-minded individuals (and indeed, classes) have found quicker ways across the waters. From Ulangi one can also gain passage to the nearby island of Mysia.

A brillant forest lies to the south of the island, while a boggy swamp covers the north-northeastern part. The Grook village (called by some Ogalla) lies to the northeast of the island.

A large mountain lies in the centre, with another forest, the Cloud Forest, growing halfway up its slopes. This forest is aptly named, as it is actually in the clouds. The island has seen great, natural fires which burned away for periods unknown. The regrowth in some parts is still evident.

At the top of the mountain, the horkvali hive (also known as Rapo'kir Hive) lies deep in the dank crevices of the mountain.

Culture

The island overall is a very quiet place. The soothing sounds of trees, wildlife and waterfall can be heard in the Cloud Forest. The bustling of horkval workers can be heard echoing out from their caverns.

The Horkvali have a particular dislike of the mystical Grooks, being themselves, less than competent magic users.

Inhabitants

Aside from these more notable denizens, there are many forms of wildlife to be found on the island, as well as Horkval workers, Horkval guards, Horkval drones, Grook children, Grook hunters, Grook women and Grook scholars.

Shopping

As one can imagine, the shopping opportunities are rather limited on the island. One shop in the Grook village, A Hunter's Hut, sells local delicacies to the hungry traveller, including snails and turnips.

The only other shop of note, is the commodities shop in A small market, which supplies locals and visitors alike with wood, leather, obsidian and platinum.
