Jaru is a small village that lies west of Targossas upon the bank of the Pachacacha River. The neighboring city of Shallam was historically fiercely protective of the Jaruvians and came to their aid many times prior to its destruction, most notably during invasion by the city of Mhaldor. In the 360s AF, a back and forth struggle between the two cites resulted in the Battle of Jaru.

Spring of 737 AF saw Targossian overtures of friendship and by autumn an alliance with the city-state was officiated in the newly-renovated village chapel, and in 910 AF, the bilateral construction of Sulaiman's Span.

Jaru sits at the eastern end of the Southern Road, bordered by the Shamtota Hills to the west and the Pash Valley to the north.  It sits just north of the Peshwar Delta beside the lower Pachacacha River. Whereas the bridge once connected the eastern gate to their neighbors in Shallam, Sulaiman's Span additionally arcs the Pachacacha northwards towards the Raphaelan via the town's northern entrance. The entire east side of town is still historically devoted to docks and shipping yards, where the ships Sea Jewel and Seamule are moored. A few small farms can be found in the north end of the town.

The Jaruvians held a strong connection with the people of neighboring Shallam, who allied with them against various threats throughout their history. The inhabitants worshiped various divine associated with the ideals of Good, such as Lorielan and Tarah, whose grove was once located within the village. It was to Jaru that survivors fled when the Jewel of the East was destroyed and it was there that many spent their time despite finding refuge on New Hope. Against the many trials and depravations by adventurers of enemy forces, today Jaru holds staunchly to its faith in the Bloodsworn Gods even as it boasts its own Targossian-trained fisherman militia.

Father Garron, a devotee of Deucalion, runs a small chapel in honour of the Bloodsworn Gods near the west gate of town.

Babel, God of Oblivion claims dominion over the realm of Chaos. He teaches that, since the Unnamable broke into Creation, existence itself has spiralled inevitably towards a perfect singularity, where all are one with the primal void. The acceptance of this destined end is accompanied by a refusal to be bound by external morals. Freedom of thought and action are paramount to Him, for why place importance in such ephemeral and impermanent ideals?

History

The first act of Lord Sarapis at the outset of the Chaos Wars was to create Lord Babel, Patron of those who seek Chaos. Caught for aeons in the mysteries of Chaos and Creation, little was heard of Babel on the Prime Material Plane save for terrible whispers caught by the Revolutionaries of Chaos. A small cult headed by visionary Flair Ze'Dekiah, the Revolutionaries zealously sought the return of the ancient god. In the 475th year following the fall of the Seleucarian Empire, the cult succeeded. Rumblings of Chaos disturbed the realms as an enormous seal etched with occult markings was revealed in the bowels of the Great Rock. By the closing of the year, it was shattered. Showing Himself to mortals for the first time in centuries, Babel emerged from beyond the seal and was immediately set upon by Eris. Draining Him of His essence, She cast Herself back through time to the emergence of the Unnamable Horror and stepped wholly beyond existence as we know it. Paradoxically, back in the present, Babel reclaimed His place as God of Chaos.

Babel wields the Flame-Bright Spear.

The Cult of Babel

Little is known about the mysterious cult that remains devoted to Babel, except perhaps the location of the temple within which they perform their sacred duty.

Dunn Lichlord was the inaugural adventurer to harness entropic dread as Oblivion's Avatar.

Mizik Corten was the first adventurer elevated to the status of Babel's Order Champion, bearing the mantle of High Sohtanate of the Inner Planes.

Divine Symbols

Babel makes claim to the sign of the Twin, the third eye, the iron crown, and the flaming spear.
