Hawks are a broad family of raptors which soar the skies of Achaea. Larger than falcons but smaller than eagles, they are medium-sized birds of prey which favour rodents and small birds. Their for their intelligence and ferocity they are commemorated as a lesser symbol of Aegis and in the artefact Scimitar of Hawks. Like other large birds, they can be plucked for feathers for brewing remedies. The following hawks are found around the land:
- Chestnut knife-wing hawks
Chestnut plumage and long, sharp wing-tips give these striking island hawks their name. With their keen eyesight they hunt the bluegrass plateaus of New Hope.
- Dappled plains hawks
The compact, gilt-winged Daoric birds of the grasslands of the southern continent. Their breasts bear a rippling pattern of cocoa and russet which take on a mottled caramel appearance from a distance.
- Grey hawks
These striped raptors are pale grey with white barring upon its chest and neck. Their amber eyes keep a keen watch on the rubble-filled roadways of Meropis.
- Osprey hawks
Sea-based hawks with sleek brown plumage which can be found in the darkened skies over Valho Coast.
- Red-backed hawk
Named for the reddish brown shade on their backs, the red-backed birds are otherwise grey and plump with creamy quills and spindly legs. These lesser known hawks glide above the wind-scoured treetops of Rheodad Forest.
- Shaded mountain hawk
Elegant denizens of the clouds of New Hope, these slate-grey mountain hawks nest on the slopes of Mount Luth.
