Hectan, the Hashan papermaker, is an elderly Tsol'aa gifted in the craft of paper-making. Originally a resident of the village located in the Aalen Forest, he was forced to leave it behind as the ocean dampness was painful to his arthritic joints. To remind him of his former home, he wears only one ornament upon his person: a hairpin with an attached wooden butterfly painted to resemble one of the morning cloaks, a species native to the Aalen.
