Ethian

The comet named Ethian is the hard, burning core of the once-magnificent sun that collided in the skies above Sapience with Abbadon, a bottomless pit called the Destroyer. This collision became known as the Coming of the Morning Star. The force of this collision was such that two Gods, Apollyon the Malefactor and Aurora, Goddess of Light, were instantly created from the event. Additionally, all living beings in Sapience died as a result of the explosion, except for a single man named Clark.

However, much of the destructive energies became focused inside the surviving core of Ethian, which then fell into an orbit in space that brought it near Sapience every year in the month of Sarapin. Some chunks of the comet fell to Sapience and became charged with and attuned to the energies of Necromancy and Devotion, becoming especially charged during Sarapin when the comet Ethian was closest to Sapience. Over time, they either took special shapes (such as a jewelled Sphinx in the Mhojave desert) or became absorbed into the area where they had fallen (such as a special Valley in the Dakhota Hills). Once mortals learned that they could affect these Landmarks when Ethian was close, Necromancers, Devotion users, and their allies and enemies began to battle each Sarapin for control over them.

Later, the energies of the landmarks and Ethian itself were absorbed in the creation of Makali, Goddess of Destruction.
