Orin Grandier

Lord Orin Grandier served as the prime minister of Seleucar, from the reign of King Valerias deSangre until shortly before the second War of Succession. He helped to mentor young Catarin in the subtle nuances of ruling an empire.

For years, Lord Grandier was close friends with Duke Lucius Errikale, until the Wars of Succession tore the two apart. Even so, Errikale and Grandier both worked toward the same goal of convincing the other cities that the first War of Succession was nothing more than a series of riots, and succeeded admirably; by the time the other cities caught wind of the conflict, the first War of Succession was over, and the quest for the Staff of Nicator had begun. It is unknown whether or not Grandier was in direct communication with Errikale during this time, but it is known that each held the other in high regard, deigning to clash only regarding military affairs, and each man worked constantly to evacuate citizens of Seleucar to outlying hamlets as the war drove on.

Eventually, Grandier was assassinated in Castomira's purge of Catarine supporters. He was found hanged unceremoniously in his bedchamber, with spikes driven through his eyes.
