Darnashta'i, an ancient Tsol'aa, long ago summoned the Wyrm of Worlds, a demon, to rid the forests of humans. In doing so, he brought much trouble upon himself and Sapience for years to come, his actions inadvertently leading to the creation of the Underground Forest in Azdun, the infection of Gaia with madness (and subsequently, Gaia's betrayal), and the captivity of Demeter in the Netherworld.

He now resides in the Tsol'aa village of the Aalen, his supple doeskin garments doing little to soften his grim appearance. Wrinkled skin, white hair, and dark shadows lingering in his aged eyes bear host to the eons he spent in terror and agony before settling into a more peaceful existence.
