Spectres are mysterious, incorporeal beings that resemble ghosts. As disembodied humanoids who typically appear as phantom-like humanoids they are surrounded by clouds of mist and their touch is cold and draining of life energy. The Chaos Lord Rixil, the spectre is called such for his discorporate form on the Chaos Plane.

Spectres have a long history in and around Hashan, going back centuries. They once roamed free within a crumbling temple east of the Dome of the Triad. In 433 AF four of Hashan's denizens were kidnapped that their energy could be sucked from them via a siyamak machine to feed the phantoms. With the united effort of Hashan's houses, they were able to destroy the machine that was draining the denizens' lives, but the resulting explosion caused the ruins to cave in.

When lands around the Crown of the Ithmia shattered during events leading up to discovery of the Wellspring, the resulting Sunderlands became infested with aggressive spectres which haunt the area to this day. Hashan's victory in the Underworld War armed the city with knowledge on how to shackle some of the beings, pressing them into service as city guards similar to the spectral guardians of Belladona's Keep.
