Epicurus, Master of the Garden, is the tutor and resident philosopher of Ashtan. Though he has lived in his home on Ashtan's Stagira Boulevard for countless years, he did spend part of his youth in Shala-Khulia, where he learned the ways of the jungle from Ixtahuitl, Shaman of the Khish.

Owing to his reputation as a man of wisdom on many subjects, Epicurus has been involved in a myriad of events throughout history. He has played a role in such cases as the Jade Icon Saga, the destruction of the Iron Citadel, and the Taint and its subsequent banishing. Damaris blames him and Averroes in Shallam for the destruction of her personal home in Hashan.
