Lady Alkiera was a close personal friend of Catarin deSangre whose father and mother lived in the town of Tasur'ke. She was one of but three people who knew of Catarin's true feelings for Lucaine Pyramides. Alkiera saw none of the appeal in Pyramides that Catarin did, describing him as "silent, verging on sullen ... unexceptional except perhaps in dexterity."
