History
Bitterfork was founded by the survivors of a shipwrecked crew under the command of Polemarch Amphites, separate from the wreck of the Ninth Legion of Amphites himself at Rheodad. Their descendants are the current members of the village.
Geography
South of the Northreach Forest, Bitterfork is located in the Dardanic Plains between the Bitterflow River and the Sapphire Ocean.
Inhabitants
- Bear hunters
- Belen, the shaman
- Lyen, a chubby innkeeper
- Melancton, the Mayor
- Shepherds
- Thaleia
- Vanac, the leatherworker
- Villagers - children, men, women, and a wiry fisherman
Culture
Despite the presence of a mayor, the village is ruled by Belen's iron fist and is home to his notorious Bear Cult. Most of the people in the village are bear hunters who with local shepherds guard flocks in the nearby countryside from all manner of predators. Other men, wome, and children occupy the village and seem at peace as they tend their day to day chores.
Notable Locations
In the village square, a crumbling fountain of black granite is featured. Despite the deterioration of the structure, one can see that a wall surrounds the basin with a pillar rising up in the center, with four bear heads in bas-relief upon its surface.
Flora and Fauna
Just outside the village, goldenseal and lady's slipper grow in abundance as tsetse flies annoyingly buzz and loop from one location to the next and beds of kelp can be found thriving in the nearby Bitterflow River.
Savannah lions, half the size of their mountain cousins, are just as fierce as they prey on the fluffy white sheep and wooly barmotez who graze the prairie grasslands. While the lions dine on a diet mainly of sheep, the savannah grizzly will attack most anyone on sight. Another creature of interest is the green-banded amphisbaena, a worm-like lizard with two heads and no tail.
