The skill of Forging has been replaced with the skills of Weaponsmithing and Armoursmithing.

Forging allowed an individual to use commodities to craft armour, shields, and weaponry. To begin the forging of a new item, a vacant forge had to first be located, and these could be found in all major cities, as well as a few villages. After a coal was placed in the forge and lit in order to generate enough heat for crafting, the necessary commodities were then placed into the forge. Forging proceeded in two stages. First, the mass of commodities was formed into a crude weapon, shield, or set of armour; the second step was then refinement of the crude item. All forged items of the same type possessed equivalent statistics prior to refinement. Each refinement could randomly increase one statistic until the item was been fully crafted, at which point no further refinement was possible.

Using the Hammer of Forging artefact allowed a smith to create fully crafted items with fewer refinement steps and with greater potential for above-average statistics.

The Forging skill was available to to members of the three knight classes: Infernal, Paladin, and Runewarden. With the advent of trade skills forging was split into Weaponsmithing and Armoursmithing and knights gained the new skill of Weaponmastery.

Details: Full plate armour is considered a rather special item in Achaea, and is strictly limited to use by those with an extremely high aptitude for forging. It is _very_ expensive, and takes an extremely long time to forge (and you will always want to forge it to its maximum).

Speak to a Patron Immortal, such as that of your house or city, and have your armour's description customised, so that when people look at you, they might see, for instance, Sarapis is wearing a suit of blackened armour, instead of Sarapis is wearing a suit of shimmering full-plate.
