Located on the northwestern coast of [[Sapience]], the revamped [[city-state]] of '''Ashtan, Seat of Chaos''', was founded in the days of legend, long before the rise of the [[Seleucarian Empire]]. It has been a prominent seaport on the [[Sapphire Sea]] almost since the day [[Glanos]] established it, shortly after he and [[Sahart]] left [[Ceylon]]. Though the overseas trade dried up during the [[Anarchy Rebellions]] and the naval force fell into deprecation, in modern times Ashtan has still remained a powerful force politically, economically, and martially.
Afflictions include any of the altered states of mind and body brought on by [[venoms]], [[curses]], psychic manipulation, and various other [[abilities]] used by combatants and [[:Category:Creatures|creatures]]. The [[ring of pestilence]] is an [[enchantment]] that will target its victim with a random affliction.


Reborn upon an abominable alliance of ruthlessly enduring vendetta, military might, and the terrible machinations of Imperator Glaaki and his Chaos Court, Ashtan has embraced its title of the Seat of Chaos. Their profane aims are wrought with havoc and destruction, utter ruin brought to bear against the orderly social and theological structures that would dare oppose the Bastion and her hermetic benefactors.
As is natural, every ailment has a corresponding [[:Category:Pharmaceuticals|cure]], whether it be an [[:Category:Herbs|herb]], [[:Category: Salves|salve]], or [[:Category: Elixirs|elixir]]. The powerful [[Tree Tattoo|Tree of Life tattoo]] can also cure almost all afflictions, as could the [[Priest]] [[:Category:Skills|skill]] of [[Healing]] (formerly), and [[lifestone]]. The [[worry stone]], [[gem of negation]] and the [[necklace of purity]] are enchantments that also cure afflictions.


[[:Category:Houses|House]]-wise, Ashtan plays host to a bevy of adventurers, including the [[Esoteric Consortium]], the [[Savants of the Wheel]], and the [[Nemesian Vanguard]]. The city-state is actively guarded by the likes of Sorrowborne Sentinels, sentries of the Vanguard, thralls of the wheel, demented skyscourges, and Ashtan corsairs.

There are many afflictions that may befall adventurers in Achaea, each one unique in its effects. While most are detrimental, some may actually be considered advantageous under certain circumstances. Such afflictions are often considered defences, such as deafness and blindness.

A comprehensive list of cures for afflictions may be found on the Cures page.

Afflictions include any of the altered states of mind and body brought on by venoms, curses, psychic manipulation, and various other abilities used by combatants and creatures. The ring of pestilence is an enchantment that will target its victim with a random affliction.

As is natural, every ailment has a corresponding cure, whether it be an herb, salve, or elixir. The powerful Tree of Life tattoo can also cure almost all afflictions, as could the Priest skill of Healing (formerly), and lifestone. The worry stone, gem of negation and the necklace of purity are enchantments that also cure afflictions.
