When Ugrach's son slew the god of Death, Thoth, the Divine called a moot trial to decide Slith's fate. Ugrach raced to his son's aid, striking a bargain with the gods by which his son would be punished but not executed, to be locked afterwards in the Underworld, while Ugrach himself abdicated as Lord of the Undead and took over Thoth's role in the guidance of souls within the Halls of Death.
It is with his vacancy of the Underworld, that that a new leader needed to be chosen in order to decide what is to happen to the Underworld. With many striving to attain power for themselves, thus began the War for Ruler of the Underworld.
It was then that each prominent being in the Underworld sought to take control of the Soulbleed, and gain power over the Underworld. In order for the powers in the Underworld not to destory all of existence, Lord Aegis sought the help of adventurers to help each one of the opposing factions to help achieve power and each faction sought the help of the city-states in order to help bolster there power.
The factions rose up to challenge as leader of the Underworld: Magister Dominar --- Who sought to expand the influence of the Underworld to the Material Plain.
- The Ur'Vampires Tizane and Zigana---- who sought to enhance the physical and mental prowess of creatures they expose the energies of their conduit to of the Soulbleed.
- The Ur'Vampires Asztrik and Prioska ----- who sought as well to enchance the prowess of the creaturs they exposed to the conduit.
- The Death Knight Lord Kemnast and Ur'Vampire Gerzson ---- who sought to keep other factions from controlling the Soulbleed Nexus, and to keep it from misuse.
- The Vampire Lord Zsarachnor ---- wants to kill Slith and take both his place and power for himself.
- The Vampiress Belladona wants the Soulbleed Nexus. Why was unclear.
Each city state was promised that if there faction would would win they would honour there agreement by Divine Mandate.
The city of Ashtan joined forces with the Tizane and Zigana seeking there knowledge on how to alter there creatures prowess. The city of Targossas joined forces with the Vampire Lord Zsarachnor who promised the to them to guide them to the Holy Phoenix. The city of Hashan joined forces with Asztrik and Prioska who promised to lend there knowledge on the undead to help the city better understand the Sunderlands and help control the beings there. The village of Eleusis joined forces with Kemnast and Gerzson who promised to protect the Soulbleed from the the other factions and to keep the Underworld in check from affecting the Material Plane.
The city of Mhaldor and the city of Cyrene choose not ally themselves with any faction, but rather the individual citizens were given a choice of who they rather fight for and each of the citizens joined different factions.
Before the fighting started, the Magister Dominar withdrew from the war, plotting in achieving his goal in some other fashion, thus leaving only 5 factions.
In order to help facilitate each faction he left he faction in the hands of a capable demigod, Hanindir, the Aureate Savant, Ulerin, the Artificer, Rhivona, the Toxotes of Woe, Flaris, the Servant Tactician, and Pindara, Advocate of Desolation. Each demigod lead each of the factions to in a series of tests and collections in first to set up a portal to the Underworld, and then to help set up supplies and defenses that would help in the upcoming battle. In the very last phase of the battle, a war brought between the many factions in many battlefields that assaulted and defending there forts and auxilary fortresses. With no winner in sight yet, the battle continue to rage on.
