The Hammer of Phaestus is the chosen tool of Phaestus, the Great Smith.
At one point in history the hammer housed the essence of its master; Phaestus having been forcibly sealed within by Varian to mask His presence in creation. The hammer fell from the heavens in a large spectacle of light, and commenced a game where various factions would steal the relic back and forth. Prophetic dreams of a grand convocation of magi and a unicorn centring on the hammer were given to the holders of the hammer, which the Magi of Shallam and the Sorcerers of Hashan attempted. The first attempt failed due to disorganization, the second resulted in the theft of the hammer by an Occultist, leading to a raid on Ashtan to recover it. A third attempt was nearly organized but halted when an Ashtani Infernal reclaimed it and forced the concession of allowing the Warlocks to participate in the matter. With all three magi guilds in attendance the ritual was performed, their concerted power with that of Agatheis through the unicorn's horn, released Phaestus from the hammer's confines.
Later Phaestus would use his hammer to sheer a mountain from the Vashnars, that would later become the island of Mhaldor.
