The Halls of Thoth was where adventurers would go to embrace death. The simplest, and arguably the most common, process to return to life, was that after a tedious journey of reflection, the deceased must face the God of Death for another chance at life. Adventurers were then granted another chance to walk among the living will find themselves outside the Cave of Maya.
