Talk:Sun (Sol)
Echoing Asara, where the hell did that come from? Corvax 05:42, 4 July 2007 (GMT)

- All the scientific hoopla about the sun and whatnot. --Askiva @ 10:17, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- Er... Which scientific hoopla? I'm confused. :/ -- Delphinus @ 12:51, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- This is the question that Asara posed: "is it possible I can get the references for this? It smacks too much of IRL astronomy and may not actually apply ICly." --Askiva @ 16:04, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- I know, and I was confused as to what specific points she was referring to, as well. HELP MORNINGSTAR, the events posts surrounding the Eternal Night, and the events posts surrounding Dawn's transformation into the phoenix all served as sources IIRC. But again, I'm not quite sure what part of it smacks of IRL astronomy - elements and life energy are pretty unfamiliar concepts to science, outside of New Age-circles and classical Greece. -- Delphinus @ 22:22, 7 July 2007 (GMT)

Sorry to be replying a bit late! Here are the points I think may have been extrapolated from the real world:
1) "Helios" terminology. Which literature? I know that "Sol" is mentioned with every rising sun, at least world emote-wise.
- 1) From The Seleucarian Empire: Wars of Succession: "The skies, indifferent, continue on as they always have; floating blue-white and aloof during Helios' circuit, then falling upon the city with the sound of a hundred rapids." -- Delphinus @ 02:24, 8 July 2007 (GMT)
2) Mention of the sun as the centre of a solar system. The presence of "solar systems" I don't think are an established part of achaean physics as we currently know it. Asara 23:52, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- 2) Check the Planetarium of the Crown. -- Delphinus @ 02:24, 8 July 2007 (GMT)
3) If "solar system" is an appropriate term for how the realm can be described, is the sun the centre? (Seriously!) Asara 23:52, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- 3) Again, check the planetarium. -- Delphinus @ 02:24, 8 July 2007 (GMT)
4) Size of the sun as thousand times larger. Asara 23:52, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- 4) Check the planetarium (though I'm not sure if it specifies it as thousands of times larger, it's still described as much, much larger than the planets around it). -- Delphinus @ 02:24, 8 July 2007 (GMT)
5) The description of photosynthesis is specific, but probably OK. Asara 23:52, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
- 5) The description of photosynthesis isn't a description of photosynthesis. It's a description of the Groves skill, which uses sunlight energy. -- Delphinus @ 02:24, 8 July 2007 (GMT)
Sorry to cause confusion as well, but better to double-check and make sure than offer erroneous information. All of this information may be gimmies in the real world, but it may not apply here. I had also messaged Clementius awhile back and he said he was working on clarifying the relationship of "planets" to the current known world of planes and continents. However, now that Mithraea is the Divine head of the chroniclers, maybe she can help us as to how much of the IRL sun she wants as descibed here for Achaea. Asara 23:52, 7 July 2007 (GMT)
