The hippocampus is a noble animal of the deep oceans. With the forelegs, chest, and head of a mighty horse and the hind-end of a fish, the hippocampus can grow to a length of ten feet and is covered with blue-green scales. They are intelligent animals, and will only allow people they regard as friends of the sea to ride upon them.
It is rumoured that vast herds of hippocampi travel in the wild Sapphire Sea, though they are occasionally found in smaller numbers throughout all the oceans.
The hippocampus is the primary symbol of Neraeos, God of the Sea
