Pills were items that, for a brief period early in the Modern Age, served the purpose that healing herbs do now. The most well-known example is the scholastic pill, a small brown tablet that worked in much the same way as myrrh. Within a few years, the pill fad wore off and healative herbs went into fashion once more.
