The night-blooming orchids began growing in the Sangre Plains during the eclipse known as the Eternal Night.
Three dark blue petals compose the outer whorl of the flower, matched by three smaller ones on the inside, with the middle of the inner three is enlarged to form a ruffled, white-tipped lip. The large blossoms are each based upon single, central stalks with thick, leathery leaves of dark and pale green. Reflected light shimmers off the plants, causing them to appear speckled with silver flecks.
Late in Autumn of 472, a single, pregnant nightmare was found roaming the plains accompanied by a cloud of white bats. The only sustenance the mare would take during her pregnancy was that of the exotic night-blooming orchids.
