Wolf Song

O wolf who wanders waywardly in every woods I roam,
I know I'm just a visitor; these forests are your home.
So you go your direction, and I'll be on my way,
And we will meet again another day.

I've met you in the Forest Black, and seen you with the boar
Who wanders there beside you, from Thera to the core.
I wondered if you ever made that boar a tasty bite,
But one who has her grove there said she'd never seen you fight.

O wolf who wanders waywardly in every woods I roam,
I know I'm just a visitor; these forests are your home.
So you go your direction, and I'll be on my way,
And we will meet again another day.

I always find a pack of you in hills beside the dunes,
Circling around me as I hum my bardic tunes.
At first you made me nervous, but now I feel secure:
If you haven't hurt me yet, then I am safe with you, I'm sure.

O wolf who wanders waywardly in every woods I roam,
I know I'm just a visitor; these forests are your home.
So you go your direction, and I'll be on my way,
And we will meet again another day.

A symbol of Lord Lupus, you greet me from his shrines:
The hunt which provides balance in the Logos's great designs.
You also stand for loyalty; you won't desert your pack.
May I, too, earn such stalwart friends to watch and guard my back.

O wolf who wanders waywardly in every woods I roam,
I know I'm just a visitor; these forests are your home.
So you go your direction, and I'll be on my way,
And we will meet again another day.

These forests were yours long before Shallam and Ashtan rose.
You saw Seleucar come and go, and all the Tsol'aa's woes.
I hope that you will still be here to chase and thin the herds
When my life's been distilled into a smattering of words.

O wolf who wanders waywardly in every woods I roam,
I know I'm just a visitor; these forests are your home.
So you go your direction, and I'll be on my way,
And we will meet again another day.
