In the years leading up to 688AF, a series of strange events which culminated in what has come to be known as the Sundering of the Crown. It began when a strange blue mist began to seep from cracks throughout Hashan. Rising up from below the city's foundation, it soon grew into a thick azure fog that blanketed the entire city. With it came enraged spectres, reminiscent of those restless souls of the Somnustran sect long thought to have been put to rest, who attacked any unfortunate passerby without prejudice.

As time passed, the spectres grew in number and aggression while powerful winds erupted from beneath the city like howling moans racing through the city's narrow streets. Finally, in 688AF a sudden cacophony of tortured voices shook the entirety of Hashan and spectral hands shot up from the cracks clawing away at the foundation of the city until a great fissure burst open setting Hashan apart from the surrounding Northern Ithmia.

The spectres resigned themselves to the newly created chasm, while the blue fog persisted. The newly created Sunderlands radiated with a strange power causing rubble and stone to float inexplicably weightless. Hopping across these strange floating stones now provides the only access to Hashan. This event marked the end of Hashan as the Crown of the Ithmia and saw it reborn with new purpose as the Court of Shadows.
