The Shrine Wars is the name commonly given to the undeclared war between Sartan and his followers and members of the Divine Alliance. In approximately the year 290 AF, Lord Sartan's followers began targeting the shrines of several divine. In response, Caspian, Phaestus, Lupus, Aegis and Ourania joined together in a mutual alliance against the order of Sartan.
The Shrine Wars began in 217 AF when Ashtan issued an ultimatum to the Holy Church of Achaea regarding the placement of shrines on the continent. During this era shrines were golden monuments tied to devotional abilities, and as such were declared weapons of mass destruction by Ashtan.

Hostilities escalated between Ashtan and the Church, with the Church gaining Shallam and the Serpentlords as the allies. After two years, delegates met from Ashtan and the Church to negotiate, coming to terms of peace only after agreeing to the limits of shrine placement outlined by the opposition.
In the year 300 AF, Aegis renewed the call to make war on the followers of Sartan, who rejected any conditions imposed to enact a cessation of hostilities.

The Shrine Wars, never having been truly declared, effectively ended upon Sartan's imprisonment under the island of Mhaldor.
