Durande

The boy Durande was an orphan and a young ward of Thornwall Hold in the tumultuous years following the fall of Seleucar. He dreamt of being a knight and always looked out for his two younger sisters. After his sisters drank from a lake poisoned by a nocturnal monster Durande set out alone for revenge. Armed only a shortsword he set out to kill the monster, but its hide was impenetrable by normal weapons. It was by chance and curiosity that led Durande back to the poison lake. Dipping the shortsword into the monster-tainted waters transformed its metal into what would later be known as Durandian Steel. With his strengthened weapon Durande cut through the monster like a hot knife through butter, taking revenge for the deaths of his family members.
