Coal is a combustible commodity taken from the ground through the practice of mining. It is a black, organic rock formed when intense pressure is applied to decaying plant and animal material. Coal is primarily used in refining raw commodities such as iron ore, but is also used for fuel in forging. Prior to the advent of wide scale adventurer mining, coal could be purchased from the commodity shops in Thalagor or Moghedu.
