The '''Venom''' [[:Category:Skills|skill]] is possessed by members of the [[Serpent]] [[:category:classes|class]] and gives them the [[:Category:Abilities|ability]] to secrete various poisons that can be introduced into their [[enemies|enemies']] bodies through biting. Once a Serpent has bitten his or her foe, the venom begins to elicit a particular, often detrimental, effect upon that person.
The Venom skill involves the production of various venoms by glands. These glands are remnants of evolution and lay dormant in most people. To those with the skill though, they can be used to great effect. First, one must secrete a particular venom. There will be a short pause while your glands produce the chosen toxin. Once the venom has been secreted, it cannot be held in the bloodstream indefinitely. Each venom has a risk factor incorporated into it. The more powerful the venom, the greater the chance of it backfiring and affecting the producer. To get the venom out of the bloodstream, one must either bite another adventurer or purge the venom from their body.


Many of the commonly known [[:Category:Afflictions|afflictions]] can result from being bitten by a Serpent in this manner. However, the effect of the bite depends on the victim's [[skill ranks|skill rank]] in the [[:category:Mini-Skills|miniskill]] [[Antidotes]]. The [[sileris]] berry will also help prevent venomous bites.
It should be pointed out that denizens will be immune to most venoms that do things other than cause damage.


Serpents with access to a [[milking room]] may choose to transfer their venoms into [[vials]]. These may be sold for sale either in [[shops]] or via the [[market channel]].
The skill of '''Venom''' is available to members of the [[Serpent]] [[class]], along with [[Subterfuge]] and [[Hypnosis]].


When filled with venom, the [[ouroborean vial]], which was sold at auction in 486 AF, will never run dry.
