Uninspired

In darkness first I see the light
Of crystal fire, burning bright
And wind that stirs my unwashed hair
As I grip the stone and stare

Out east where on the wild sea,
The rosy hint of dawn will be
Approaching, and the waves turn pink
And as I watch them I will think

Of all I wish I could have done
To ensure that the rising sun
Would see my city, Shallam, honoured,
But, so sad, I can't be bothered.

Honour, glory, light and power
Fading quickly by the hour.
Heat and dust, I feel so tired,
Love and trust, I'm uninspired.

There ought to be a lot to say,
And in the name of Goodness, pray,
The diamond absolutes to prize,
And preach with zealous, burning eyes.

The crystal realm is far away,
The help it hides not ours this day,
And Righteousness must take a nap,
The burden placed on mortals' laps.

This lapse, perhaps, may take a toll
Despite the urging Lady Sol
Beseeching us to march on bravely,
Sorry, Lady, I'm just lazy.

Honour, glory, faith and truth,
Fading quickly, I'm the proof.
Heat and dust, I feel so tired,
Love and trust, I'm uninspired.

So many friends have walked away,
But still I watch and wait, I stay,
With quiet eye and mind serene
Observe the streets, a peaceful scene,

Knowing that the Eastern Jewel,
Sold out for a Raiders' mule
And lost their Ruling Council, too.
Perhaps the maddened priest spoke true?

To say that daylight smothers night
Means the glowing light must fight
And is this right, or do we sit,
And call the fighters hypocrites?

Now ponder where to lay the blame,
Where to thrust this burning shame?
But what's the point of pruning limbs
When the roots are rotten things?

Honour, glory, faith, compassion,
Fading quickly out of fashion.
Heat and dust, I feel so tired,
Love and trust, I'm uninspired.
