The Craftsman's Call

Lest you underestimate the power of song, allow me to enlighten you.

-The Craftsman's Call-

Coopers bind your barrels tight,
save ale and wine their rightful place.
Chandlers mold your candles bright
that everyone might see my face.
Tailors keep your threads and dyes;
I've worn my very best tonight.
Politicians spin your lies,
but keep the conversation light.
Wainwrights mend your simple carts.
Be sure my crowd arrives on time.
Scarlatti's heirs sing out your hearts:
I've heard your songs, now you hear mine!
Journeymen and artists all--
to each his own, to each his choice.
You who've heard the craftsman's call,
witness now the Craft of Voice.

Sticks and stones can break your bones
And so will my Vibrato.
I'll snap your arms with voice alone
A docli et legato.
Perk your ears that you might hear
My tender, sweet Tremolo
You won't be walking home, I fear,
So stay to hear my Solo.

I know a song that will strike fear
into your hardened hearts.
It's quite unnatural to hear
one voice sing several parts.
But listen how I harmonize:
Your ears will not believe your eyes.
The one-man Fugue's a mystery
That splits a single voice in three.

My Epic sound will pin you down,
Enchanted by my song,
But take my word that this songbird
Can sing the whole night long.
A simple Lay might save the day
From Puppetmasters' wiles.
A well-sung Tune's a helpful boon,
But don't forget your vials!

Feeling sick from too much cake?
A simple Poem is all it takes.

Waistline look a little thick?
Qasida might do the trick.

Suff'ring from withdrawal attacks?
Ode will keep you coming back.

Aching for a mountain climb?
Pastorale should change your mind.

Stingy wallet? Tight purse strings?
Gimmegimme all your things.

Trouble with some crystal trees?
Yodel knocks them out with ease.

Alas, the concert nears it end!
May you go with song, my friends.
But let me rattle off a list
of Voicecraft skills I might have missed...

March will give your mounts a scare;
Dwinnu breaks the ties that bind;
Chant will strip defenses bare;
Endless Passion dulls the mind;
Noise erases memory;
Haiku makes your brain a mess;
Prelude stirs reality;
Cantata gives your shield a rest.

Journeymen and artists all--
to each his own, to each his choice.
You who've heard the craftsman's call,
bow before the Craft of Voice.
