From the early days of my career,

I faced combat with little fear.

To protect the House that I hold dear,

I became a Defender of the Arts.

A simple oath: For Hall and Home,

No matter how far I may roam,

From desert sands to ocean's foam;

So swears a Defender of the Arts.

And so I went and honed my skills

In Minia's gently rolling hills.

Battling imps did give me thrills,

My first foes as a Defender of the Arts.

It seemed a peaceful road I took -

My pen pressed to a poet's book.

But many times I did go look

At the histories of the Defenders of the Arts.

My poetry was never all that good,

Though I did try as best I could.

My finest work was when I stood

And fought as a Defender of the Arts.

Many times, I did not win.

Always I learned and tried again

To prove I belonged in Battle's din

And to be a Defender of the Arts.

Always to defend fair Cyrene

Have I rushed, my interest keen

To show her enemies what it means

To face a Defender of the Arts.

Now here I stand for Home and Hall.

Though we shall fight and I may fall,

I shall not blench with fear at all

For I am a Defender of the Arts.
