The ship's axe is a very important tool when it comes to defending against a boarding attempt by an enemy vessel. These are used to dispatch of a boarding plank which allow enemies access to a ship without permission, as obtained by Forceboarding. Without a ship's axe, one will discover boarding planks have a unnatural resistance to all other attempts to remove them, which makes it a valuable and necessary tool for any sailor.
