A sanity skein is a loosely coiled length of magical time wound on a wooden reel, used specifically for circumventing the corrupting influence of the Underworld. Winding the skein adds time to it whilst in the Underworld, whilst pulling it consumes the time wound onto it, allowing one to act with normal balance.
