Throughout past and present times, guardian angels have brought wonderment and awe to all those who have come in contact with them. Not many understand how they have come to be, save for the fact that those who dedicate their lives for the pursuit of Goodness, Light and Righteousness through Honour, Wisdom, and Service are able to summon these beings of Light to their sides. One can only assume that their purpose is to protect us and to watch over us as we walk upon the path overcoming Chaos, Darkness, and Evil. And though they follow us in every step we take, they cannot be considered pets as many may think, but companions and protectors.

One aspect that the angels embody is loyalty, loyalty to the one they have vowed to protect. They remain faithful even if their charge has swayed from the right path and will still protect them wholly and unconditionally. No outside influence can turn away their loyalty from us, not even the monkshood venom. Because of this, we cannot order them to follow others as they will stubbornly refuse to leave their charge's side. No matter if our souls are filled with Darkness or purified with the Light, they will continue to follow us on our path offering shelter and aid whenever we ask.

Contrary to what many may think, angels are sentient beings and will respond to the way they are treated. Provoking one will cause her to attack you, and no order from us will make her cease in her assailment. Their feelings should not be taken lightly nor should they be taken for granted. Instead, our angels should be given the respect and gratitude they truly deserve. Furthermore, the abuse of an angel is sad indeed and should not be tolerated, much like the abuse of a falcon. While they choose to protect us, that does not mean that we can exploit their purpose: as you should be grateful to the people who come to your aid, so you should be grateful to the angels who come to your aid.

In the end, an angel is more than merely a protector or guardian, she is a Priest's companion and friend. In a time of Darkness, she will be there to shine a Light into the depths and brighten our surroundings. In a time of peril, she will be there to invoke fear upon our enemies or cast her aura upon us in order to shield us so that we will come away unharmed. In a time of peace, she will watch from her plane, awaiting our summoning so that she may assist us once more. A guardian angel does all this for a Priest and more; she hovers by our sides during triumphant victories and during disappointing defeats. So, the next time you come across an angel, remember that she is more than just a tool or weapon, remember that she is a friend and guardian of those who walk upon the path of Light.
