Damaris, the Learned, is the tutor of Hashan. One of the world's most brilliant minds, she was forced to move into Hashan's multi-roomed academy after the destruction of her private home. She blames the event on the hypocritical thugs who follow Epicurus and Averroes, citing her decision to teach a philosophy that differed from theirs as the cause.
