The Sundering

They came unhindered, ever silent;
Infiltrated by means of peace.
They hinted not at thoughts of violence.
It can't be argued in the least
The Sundering had been invited.
Cyrene was caught off guard, surprised,
But banded together to defend
A symbol of the Wardens' pride.
Allies from all around flocked in,
And so the Sundering began.
On Nishnatoba, the battle raged.
And in spite of greater numbers, force,
A valiant defence was staged.
In the end, there was no recourse.
The Sundering could not be be stopped.
Alas, to the villains' dismay,
When victory seemed nigh at hand,
The Shield of Proteus shifted phase.
A wave of relief spread across the land;
The Sundering had been delayed.
Cyrene prepared, for it was known
That Mhaldor would return for more.
The seeds of war had long been sown,
And naught would keep them from our door.
The Sundering was sure to resume.
The next month the guardsmen waited
For the hand of Evil to strike.
At last, they had returned unsated,
To gain the victory stolen by time.
At last, the Sundering was nigh.
Cyrene's forces waded in
And they led a noble assault.
Alas, they made little impression;
All their work had been for naught.
And so, there was the Sundering.
The Shield is broken; is all hope lost?
Can Evil offend the Gem any more?
We cling to ideals, but at what cost?
The battle is over, but what of the war?
What will become of the Sundered?
