Gatekeeper

Ages you've seen before my times.
Sun kissed skin, tan, and wrinkle lined.
All dressed in green and your staff at hold.
Onward you've watched as we've all grown.
A welcoming smile to all that come near.
Overseeing your post to fight off those we fear.
To Eleusis' aid you will always come.
Yet a friendly old man in the work you have done.
Elias, mister gatekeeper, to you this poem speaks.
For without you our village gateway…
would oft, to be so bleak.
