Forgotten Friend

When I was young and you were weak

I was by your side or upon your wrist

agility, stamina and strength you made me seek

we travelled through sun, snow, rain and mist.

I was faithful to you from the start

I came when called and left when sent

my loyalty etched to your heart

I came from the hatchery, not a sovereign you spent.

You made me train hard every day

master, how our bond flourished

but now I'm fully trained you say

You forget me, I'm feeling nourished.

You send me away to the sanctuary

we don't meet very often it's true

I guess it's better than having to flee

if you don't send me, I'll wait for you.

I'm your trusty falcon always you see

I'll fight, I'll deliver and I'll follow

but now your a dragon you don't need me

perhaps you'll remember me tomorrow.
