I'm just a little sovereign,
I twinkle and I shine.
I'm used to purchase sustenance
Be it some mutton or some wine.
You may find me quite curious,
As I entice bad men to steal.
I send even the smartest of folk
To try their hand at Blackjack's deal.
I can sit inside your pockets
Winking brightly in the sun.
I really makes the world go round
And I don't even way a ton.
You can give me away
Or keep me to yourself.
Stuff me in a bank
Or sit me on a shelf.
Though the most curious thing about me -
I beseech you not to smirk.
Is where those darn rats keep me
While they're scratching in the dirt.
I see no pockets on their hides
Or purses strapped upon their backs.
Maybe they find me delicious
A hard golden tasty snack.
For when they have been slain
In the off chance you get the joy
Out of their split guts
Maybe I'll deploy.
Just keep me stored away
For if you reach a quick demise.
The rich man will become a Pauper
In just the blink of an eye.
