To the Bards

Sing your songs, ye bards, to me Tell of love, life, and such things But leave your wit at the door Dance drunk on the tavern floor For the common man hears thee While Jesters sit with the kings Weave your stories and old tales Of knights and the wine dark seas Stumble upon the bar stool Drink and become the true fool Truths turn kings pallid and pale Leave to us such mysteries And forget not the real fact That to us humor belongs The laughs and grins we create Serves our purpose and our fate We're stylish and have tact We know more than tavern songs Ancient arts of tarot cards And the marionettes of lore Combined with devious pranks Bombs and jack-in-the-box cranks So tell me, if you can, then bard What do you have but a sword None can doubt your fine deep voice And your swashbuckling ways Cyrene will always need you To sing, dance, and lift their mood But Chaos, a gift, is ours The cup of knowledge we raise (Author's Note: On occasion of the "war" between Ty Beirdd and the Carnivalis Institute of Jestering, this poem emphasizes the unique, mysterious, and hidden superiority that Jesters can display when called upon. The rhyme scheme used in each stanza is ABCCAB.)
