"In one notable quarrel, Eris slew the unicorn sheltered within the Gaian temple; Gaia sought Her revenge by slaying the Spawn of the Unnammable Horror."

I think this happened in the reverse order. According to the news posts that's what it looks like anyways. Gaia killed the Spawn which has been raised to try and awaken Eris, so Eris killed the Unicorn and stole it's horn.
