The Archprelate was the mortal leader of the Church. In addition to the responsibilities of its governance and spiritual direction, the Archprelate held power to excommunicate those priests and paladins who misuse their Devotion. The prelacy who appointed the Archprelate consisted of the Mayan Prelate, who was the House Lord of the Empyreal Assembly, the Justicar Prelate, who was the House Lord of the Templars, and the Imithian Prelate, who was appointed by the Divine Patron of the Church. When the Citadel of Light arose in 568 AF, the authority and power of the Archprelates became vested in the Caliph of Shallam.
