A terzanelle in iambic pentameter about Shadya, the dancer at the Ram's Horn in Cyrene.
Terzanelle for Shadya
The candlelight here seems to dance and play
As shadows flicker in the smoky haze
And Shadya laughs and throws a smile my way.
Thick incense sends my head into a daze
The zither plays; the drum pounds out its beat
As shadows flicker in the smoky haze.
A brightly colored veil falls at my feet
As I admire Shadya's graceful dance.
The zither plays; the drum pounds out its beat.
The music quickens, and I watch, entranced,
And listen to the jingling of her charms
As I admire Shadya's graceful dance.
Light flickers on her slender outstretched arms.
She turns; I meet her smouldering dark-eyed glance
And listen to the jingling of her charms.
I sit enraptured in a heady trance;
The candlelight here seems to dance and play.
She turns; I meet her smouldering dark-eyed glance
And Shadya laughs and throws a smile my way.
