Despite his filthy, lice riddled appearance, Maric the ratman is a respected figure in Mhaldor serving both as city tutor and rat buyer. He is knowledgeable in many things about the city and its history. To the amusement of Mhaldorians, he has a long-lasting friendship with Groukar and a crush on Juliet the guide.
