In the beginning of Creation, Ayar created the Aldar, an mortal race only less powerful than the Gods. After the Chaos Wars, the Aldar were allowed to retire to a plane of their own, and those who left were never seen again. However, a group of Aldar led by Han-Tolneth begged to remain and serve the Gods. These were renamed Celani, and to this day they are the servants and companions of the Gods.
