In an autocracy, one person assumes leadership of an organisation, usually a House, and keeps it until he or she is contested and defeated by another member of the same group. Depending on the structure of said autocratic organisation, a leader may serve a term of fixed or indefinite length or be limited to serving just one consecutive term. The autocracy was the form of government originally used by all Guilds.
