Stark librarian's desk

A stark librarian's desk (shortname: librariandesk) is a menacing escritoire, the improvisatory seat of a regal curator who would declare their immediate domain to be that of castigating quietude. After the desk is dropped in a locale the next time an adventurer tries to SAY something or CALL FOR HELP they are rapidly shushed, conveying a silence effect upon them. The curse of silence lifts from them after twenty (20) seconds, while the room-wide gag order instituted by the magical desk expires after thirty (30) seconds. Regardless, the furniture has a lifespan of two minutes before it returns to its schoolmarmy owner after which it can be executed again after a day's (an otherworldly hour) cooldown.
