Forges are His temple where His priests of many nations, Ring the bells that peal His hymnal, sing of gods and Their creations, Always pay the highest compliment that sacred hammers tell, By recalling His example and when smithing, smith it well. Building something better is a passion universal, Birthright of musicians knowing life is not rehearsal, When brooding Envy whispers, warning monuments must fall, Monumental men don't mind their little sisters thinking small. Every mason, good and evil, laying stones with special care, Setting eyes upon the future, every work a work of prayer, And when walls and keep are keeping warring kin from trading blows, Then they dream of better living, brothers wearing brothers' clothes. Sons will find a father's love when seeking his instruction, Just as Nature bonds a mother and her child in reproduction, Just as teachers must be teachable and students to their wonder, Building builds a better builder whereas war tears men asunder. Contemplated action, whereby sword or spell or letter, Affords us opportunities to make life's living better, Inspires in the actor, ere he exits from the stage, The choice between his better building nature and his rage.
