A subtle smile, a spoken name,
The sparks that set our world aflame,
And burning, shall I bear the blame,
For beauty some great bard might frame?

A portrait by that great Divine,
Could scarcely capture all of thine,
His mythic paint could but malign,
Thy picturesque prophetic sign.

I listen, drawn with bended ear,
To lips so soft, so far, so near,
And casting off this mundane pier,
I sail upon each brilliant sphere.

Accept my praise, thine eyes to raise,
To meet and on thy glory gaze,
Though I am pained, with soul ablaze,
I dare not beg for better days.

To feel thy slender hand in mine,
And know each pulse, each thought sublime,
Oh, let thy winsome smiles shine,
And fingers o'er my heart entwine.

Abandon now your least pretense,
Enfold me in faux innocence,
Our unrequited love evinced,
A captive lord and bonded prince.

And I will never travel there,
And never know thy silken hair,
Possess thy limbs, surpassing fair,
Nor love, if not Selene, Her heir.
