The Eye of the Beholder

In a Palace encrusted with jewels,

The Vizier sat eating on some stools.

While the City was sacked

By the raiders, he snacked

And said, "Oh, those poor, misguided fools!

"If only they'd lay down their swords,

And avoid provoking those warlords,

Then the Jewel would be safe!

Not a garment would chafe!

There'd be truffles galore for the hordes!"

While in Shallam, the old Vizier sat,

Slowly growing incredibly fat,

Hashan's finest did lay

On a couch stuffed with hay,

Pond'ring, "What's the proper format

"For procedure three-hundred-and-five,

Regarding those who are not quite alive,

But are no longer dead

And have emptied their head?

Perhaps I'll consult the archive."

In Eleusis, the village of green,

A young druid was finally seen

Harvesting extra plants!

He was snagged by his pants

And the Leath-ri said, "Don't be so mean!

"Plants and trees are the fruits of all life,

And deserve an existence sans strife,

So like rain from above

Covers us with its love,

Won't you sleep with both me and my wife?"

As the love of the forests was spread,

Cyrene's Senator laid on her bed

And released a small sigh

As snowflakes floated by,

Thinking, "What was it that the Guard said?

"I believe it had something to do

With a novice who tried to moon Blu...

Such a lack of respect

Must be forced back in check!

But I must watch my own sharp tongue, too...."

As the Senator heaved a great sigh,

The new Archon let out a soft cry,

For while writing a post

About who rocked the most,

He was stabbed by a child in the eye.

"I can do what I want!" said the youth,

whose behaviour was clearly uncouth,

But the Archon was bound

By the laws, which he found

Showed the child was telling the truth.

Though he tried to complain to the West,

The Viceroy replied, "Give it a rest,

My slaves daren't defy

If I send them to die,

And we certainly never would jest."

Then ignoring the Archon, she turned

To her lover. Though formerly spurned,

His appointment to power

Had made her feel less sour

So his "strength and wisdom" she now yearned.

Now the scenes have been perfectly set,

And it's likely a rather safe bet,

If your wish is for fame

And you've no sense of shame,

Politician's the best job you'll get!
