In a time long ago when I wielded a sword,

And drew runes on the ground, and spent days at the forge,

My companion of choice was no human or such,

But a feathered young falcon I loved very much.

Upon waking each day I would call out his name

And my falcon'd come soaring, in sun and in rain.

The intelligent glint in his coppery eye

And the strength of his wings as he'd glide through the sky,

Or the tilt of his head so intent when I'd speak,

Or the way he would stroke my own nose with his beak

Were all more than enough for this bright, loyal bird

To have captured my heart, though it may sound absurd.

Though to win the affection of Sirens is tough,

My dear falcon was seemingly made of such stuff;

For not once in my life have I given my love

So completely to someone as that savage dove.

Now, do not get me wrong; I'm a Sentinel now

And my passion for nature in full I'll avow.

Every Sapience creature I value so dear

I'd risk death without thought were the choice to appear.

But my falcon will always be close to my heart

Like a favorite old flame you still mourn is apart.

Though my memory fails and I cannot still call

In a way my old falcon will know me at all,

I think often of him, how important he was

To a young novice girl who loved him just because.

Fate has stole him away, as I've learned to accept,

But his impact on me's the most prized thing I've kept.
